The Blood Type Diet

I have to say that out of the 12 diets I have lined up for myself this year that this was the one I was most curious about. It’s an interesting theory–the idea that our blood, the most elemental part of our make up, contains all the data on what we should be eating.
It’s a mix of science, anthropology and evolution all based on the fact that certain blood types are older than others, and thereby linked to a certain period in our evolutionary and agricultural history. You may have heard that your race and ancestry can provide you with guidelines on what you should be eating in the present day, but the Blood Type Diet takes it beyond your heritage to a scientific level. For example, as a white male of Irish descent and an O Negative blood type, I’d have more in common with an African American woman who was also O Neg, than with, say, Seamus O’Flarrety. Our blood is preprogrammed with everything we need to know about what’s best for our type based on the experience of our lineage over tens of thousands of years. Hard to argue with that right?
We’ll see. I already feel some arguments coming on because this is the first diet I’ve done that is coming in direct conflict with certain philosophies of the other diets. Being an O, it’s recommended that I take in more red meats like beef, lamb and venison and avoid whole grains almost completely. This certainly flies in the face of anything the Macrobiotic, or Vegan sages would ever have suggested. To me it sounds a little like that Caveman Diet that’s been running around (which I find preposterous by the way), but the timeline they’re considering is the same: Pre-Agrarian. Meaning before any farm cultivation and domesticated animals. Os are the hunters. More meat and veggies, fewer grains and dairy products.
I’ll be getting into each of the blood types (O, A, B and AB) as we go along, but for the purpose of my experiment I just plan on sticking to my own. As I’ve been reading more about the science of immunity and disease that has been linked to certain types, it starts to make me more of a believer. Here in the beginning though I already feel that the main tenet of the Blood Type Diet is contradictory to itself: Evolution. It’s hard for me to believe that an O type in 2010, hasn’t changed a bit from the Os of the open plains in 45000 BC.
Though this is exactly what my experiment is about. To learn how each of these diets feels, because no matter how much buffalo my ancestors ate, it’s all about how realistic it is for me and you today. It’s going to be a fascinating month. I hope you enjoy learning about this nerdy diet as much as I do. D$

This is all well and good, and most noble…but did I miss photos from the gastronomy feast?
